In-House Legal Counsel – Privacy Lawyer
Location: London
Contract: 6 months (PAYE day rate)
Sector: Technology
We are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel – Privacy Lawyer to join a technology business on an initial 6-month contract. This role will support the business on a broad range of privacy, data protection, and regulatory matters, with a particular focus on providing practical legal advice in a fast-paced, innovation-led environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert legal advice on UK GDPR, EU GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, and wider global privacy laws where relevant.
- Support the business on day-to-day data protection and privacy compliance matters across products, platforms, and internal operations.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a range of privacy-related agreements, including: data processing agreements, data sharing agreements, international data transfer mechanisms, customer and vendor privacy clauses.
- Advise on international data transfers, transfer risk assessments, and appropriate safeguards.
- Partner with product, engineering, and security teams to embed privacy by design into new and existing products and services.
- Lead or support data protection impact assessments (DPIAs), legitimate interest assessments, and privacy risk reviews.
- Provide legal support on marketing, adtech, cookies, tracking technologies, and online platform compliance where applicable.
- Advise on incident response and data breach management, including notification assessments and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Help develop, implement, and update privacy policies, frameworks, governance processes, and internal guidance.

Key Requirements

- Qualified lawyer in England & Wales.
- Strong UK/EU privacy law experience.
- Post-qualification experience in data protection/privacy law, ideally gained in-house within a technology business or in a leading private practice team.
- Strong working knowledge of: UK GDPR, EU GDPR, PECR.
- CIPP/E, CIPM, or similar privacy certification is beneficial but not essential.
