About the Role

This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of tax for a large, established and purpose-led organisation based in the Manchester area. Working within the group finance function, you will become a key in-house tax specialist, advising senior stakeholders and overseeing a broad range of tax compliance, reporting and planning matters.

The role is particularly well suited to a Corporate Tax Manager or Assistant Manager from practice who wants to move closer to commercial decision-making. Rather than managing a portfolio of external clients, you will develop an in-depth understanding of one complex group and see the impact of your advice across the organisation.

You will broaden your experience beyond corporation tax, gaining exposure to other taxes, general finance and other business projects. This is a visible role offering autonomy, variety and the opportunity to improve how tax is managed across the group.

Duties and Responsibilities

As In-House Tax Manager, you will lead on day-to-day tax matters while working closely with finance colleagues, operational teams, external advisers, auditors and tax authorities.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the accurate and timely preparation and submission of tax returns and computations, including Corporation Tax, VAT, and employment taxes.
  • Advising stakeholders on the tax implications of business decisions, projects, transactions and new initiatives.
  • Acting as a key contact for external tax advisers and HMRC, coordinating information requests and ensuring matters progress efficiently.
  • Monitoring changes in UK tax and accounting legislation, assessing their impact and communicating required actions.
  • Identifying and implementing appropriate tax-planning opportunities while maintaining strong governance and compliance.
  • Providing clear, commercially focused advice on ad-hoc tax and technical accounting queries.
  • Supporting wider regulatory returns within required timescales.
  • Strengthening financial controls and improving tax, reporting and compliance processes.
  • Developing policies and procedures following changes in accounting standards, tax rules and regulation.
  • Improving the use of finance systems and data to enhance reporting and efficiency.
  • Building strong internal relationships and becoming a trusted adviser on tax matters.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
