Public Health Role in Maternity Tobacco Dependency Team
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Public Health role within our Maternity Tobacco Dependency team to support smoking cessation for pregnant people. This Fixed Term Contract (FTC) is to cover maternity leave.
About Us
Maternity at South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT) now have an “in-house” model of stop smoking in pregnancy support, which meets the recommendations of Saving Babies Lives and the NHS Long Term Plan.
We need an in-house Maternity Services Tobacco Dependency Advisor to join our Public Health Team and continue the strong provision of stop smoking in pregnancy support that we offer. This post is based in Warwick hospital and the Warwickshire area and will involve supporting pregnant families to improve their immediate and longer-term health. We work closely with our community advisors to support pregnant people booked at SWFT, GEH and UHCW(if they live in the Rugby area).
The Role
We are looking to recruit a motivated individual who fits our person specification. The post holder will be required to have great communication skills, be passionate about tackling the inequalities in health and work well within a small team. We are looking for an individual with good organisational skills who can engage with people well.

What We Offer
As part of the NHS Long Term Plan, all expectant women and birthing people and their partners will be offered support via a maternity smoke-free pregnancy pathway. As part of this pathway all women and birthing people who smoke will be offered NHS funded tobacco cessation treatment and follow up support.
The post holder will work with the Public Health Lead Midwife and the maternity team to achieve element 1 of the saving babies lives care bundle and reduce smoking in pregnancy by providing individualised stop smoking support to women and families in a flexible and innovative way.
Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle
This post will contribute to tackling inequalities in health through promoting and supporting people to stop smoking. It focuses on engaging with people in all maternity settings and offering them practical support to change their behaviour to achieve their own choices and goals. While supporting them to make positive health changes that will improve pregnancy & birth outcomes and longer-term family health.
