Job Title: Specialist Advisory Teacher – Cognition and Learning Team
Salary: £34,069 - £54,328 per annum + 1 SEN - Hertfordshire locally agreed Main Pay Range and Upper Pay Ranges
Hours: 32.5 per week, term time only (39 weeks)
Location: Based in either Hemel Hempstead or Stevenage with travel countywide
Contract: Permanent

About The Team
Would you like to make a difference to the lives of children and young people (CYP) with cognition and learning difficulties across Hertfordshire?
This is an exciting opportunity to join the SEND Specialist Advice and Support Service (SEND SAS) as a Qualified Teacher, supporting children and young people with cognition and learning needs, including those with co-occurring special educational needs and disabilities.
Working with children of statutory school age, you will play a key role in promoting and sustaining inclusive practice within mainstream educational settings. Through the delivery of high-quality training, specialist advice, and early intervention, you will help schools to develop their capacity to meet a wide range of learning needs effectively.
Our well-established and highly regarded service is seeking a committed, knowledgeable and enthusiastic Qualified Teacher to join the Cognition and Learning Team. The successful candidate will work directly with mainstream schools across the county, supporting positive outcomes and improved access to learning.
The team provides high-quality, evidence-informed training, advice and early intervention for children and young people and education providers. The role also includes contributing to the development, delivery and evaluation of training programmes, ensuring that schools and settings are equipped with the knowledge, skills and strategies needed to support learners with diverse cognition and learning needs.
About The Role
This role is responsible for
- Ensuring the educational and developmental progress of children and young people (5-25) who have Cognition and Learning needs are met in line with the Hertfordshire Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Strategy and HCC strategic objectives.
- Delivering high-quality training to schools
- Providing advice sessions
- Delivering Early Intervention work in schools
- Developing and writing training packages
- Liaising with wider multi-professionals

This role involves you being responsible for working as a proactive team member to organise, plan and deliver training, advice sessions and early intervention work across Hertfordshire schools.
About You
You will be a highly organised, proactive professional who can work well under pressure while maintaining a flexible and collaborative approach. Confident working both independently and as part of a wider service, you will bring strong interpersonal skills and proven classroom experience to the role.
You Will Have
- A degree-level qualification and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Level 5 SPLD qualification.
- At least five years of successful, relevant and recent teaching experience
- Expertise gained in a mainstream or special school setting, or experience within an advisory service
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage deadlines and a varied workload
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships
- The ability to contribute positively to a multidisciplinary team
- Proficiency in ICT, supporting all aspects of the role
- Driving licence and access to a vehicle, as the ability to travel independently across the county is essential
