Are you an experienced Revenues professional looking for your next leadership challenge?

At Solihull Council, we're looking for an ambitious and customer-focused Income Billing Team Leader to join our Income and Awards Service. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a dedicated team responsible for delivering accurate and efficient billing and collection services across Council Tax, Business Rates, Business Improvement District (BID), Sundry Income and Overpaid Housing Benefit.

You'll play a pivotal role in shaping service delivery, developing staff, driving performance and ensuring our residents and businesses receive an excellent service.

About The Role

As Income Billing Team Leader, you will:

  • Lead, motivate, support and develop staff through coaching, mentoring and effective performance management.
  • Manage workloads and resources to ensure work is completed accurately and within statutory timescales.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on complex Council Tax, Business Rates and income-related matters.
  • Lead on the implementation of legislative changes, new reliefs, discounts and system developments.
  • Handle complex customer enquiries, complaints and member correspondence.
  • Represent the Council at Valuation Tribunal hearings when required.
  • Drive service improvements, modernisation and the use of technology to enhance the customer experience.

About You

We're looking for someone who can bring:

  • Significant experience working within a Local Authority Revenues service.
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Council Tax, Business Rates, Sundry Income and/or Overpaid Housing Benefit legislation, with expert knowledge in at least one area.
  • Experience of managing performance, developing staff and leading through change.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organisational and communication skills.
  • Experience dealing with complex customer enquiries and complaints.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with colleagues, customers and external partners.
