Location: Cottington Close Estate, Kennington, London SE11
We are seeking a proactive and customer-focused Income Officer to provide an effective rent collection and arrears recovery service, helping residents sustain their tenancies while maximising rental income.
About Us
Cottington Close is a well-established and diverse housing community in South London made up of 247 properties (predominantly stock built in 50s and 60s) and occupied by a mix of tenants and leaseholders.
We are a resident-led Tenant Management Organisation (TMO) with a board made up of estate residents. We are proud of our strong community focus and our dynamic decision making, enabling us to deliver responsive, accessible housing services that support residents and maintain a safe, welcoming neighbourhood.
The Role
You will manage a caseload of rent accounts, taking early action to prevent and recover arrears through regular resident contact, home visits, repayment agreements and effective case management.
Working closely with residents, you will identify barriers to payment and provide guidance on welfare benefits, Universal Credit and available support services. You will also liaise with partner agencies to help residents access specialist advice and maintain their tenancies.

The role includes preparing legal documentation, serving notices where required, attending court hearings, managing former tenant arrears and maintaining accurate records. You will ensure all activity complies with legislation, policy and best practice.
About You
You will have experience of income management, rent collection or arrears recovery within social housing and a sound understanding of welfare benefits and tenancy sustainment.
You will be a confident communicator with strong negotiation skills, capable of managing difficult conversations while providing excellent customer service. You will also be organised, self-motivated and able to manage a varied workload effectively.
Essential Requirements
- Experience of rent collection, income management or arrears recovery.
- Knowledge of welfare benefits, Universal Credit and housing legislation.
- Ability to negotiate repayment plans and achieve positive outcomes.
- Experience supporting vulnerable residents and making referrals.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft 365.
- Ability to manage a busy caseload and maintain accurate records.
- DBS check required.
