About The Company
Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council is responsible for delivering local government services and works in partnership with the Solihull Safeguarding Adults Board to protect adults at risk.
The Council achieved a "Good" rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for Adult Social Care in March 2026, including a "Good" rating for safeguarding, with no areas requiring improvement. The Board is now seeking an Independent Chair to help drive continued progress toward achieving outstanding adult safeguarding outcomes.
The Role
The Independent Chair will provide independent leadership to the Solihull Safeguarding Adults Board, ensuring effective collaboration between partner agencies while fulfilling the Board's statutory safeguarding responsibilities.
The successful candidate will promote strong governance, support multi-agency partnership working, and ensure the voices of local residents remain central to the Board's work.

Key Responsibilities
Board Leadership
- Provide independent leadership for the Solihull Safeguarding Adults Board.
- Facilitate an effective leadership environment that enables proactive collaboration among Board members.
- Ensure the Board fulfills its statutory safeguarding duties.
Partnership & Governance
- Promote effective partnership working across agencies and professional boundaries.
- Chair Board meetings and guide strategic safeguarding discussions.
- Represent the Board within regional and national safeguarding networks.
Community Engagement
- Ensure the experiences and voices of local residents help inform Board priorities and decision-making.
- Support continuous improvement in adult safeguarding across Solihull.

Qualifications
- Senior leadership experience within the public, private, or voluntary sector.
- Proven experience chairing complex partnership or multi-agency boards or meetings.
- Strong knowledge of adult safeguarding legislation and statutory guidance.
- Ability to demonstrate independence from agencies represented on the Board.
- Commitment to managing any actual or potential conflicts of interest throughout the appointment.
Compensation
£650 per day (including expenses)
Time Commitment
- Up to 24 days per year
- Initial 2-year term, reviewed annually, with the possibility of a further 2-year extension
- Home-based with travel to Solihull approximately six times per year
