Thyroid UK Volunteer Independent Examiner
Thyroid UK is seeking a volunteer Independent Examiner to review our end-of-year accounts and verify our records. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a small charity dedicated to supporting and empowering people with thyroid disease and related conditions.

By independently examining our records, this will prove to the Charity Commission, Companies House, our funders, our stakeholders, and our beneficiaries that we can be trusted and have integrity.
We help people with thyroid disease and related conditions and integrity is important both to us and to them. They trust that our information is up to date and that we want them to continue trusting us in areas other than our information and campaigning.

What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone with experience in finance, bookkeeping, or an accounting background.
- Good attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Experience of working with small charities, plus knowledge of charity accounting principles and regulations.
- Must be able to analyze financial data and identify potential issues.
- Ability to clearly and concisely communicate findings and recommendations to the charity trustees.
- Familiar with Xero or similar cloud-based accounting software.

What will you be doing?
The Independent Examiner plays a crucial role in maintaining public trust and confidence in charities by providing an independent scrutiny of their financial records.

We are a small charity with three members of staff and 7 trustees. You will work closely with our CEO, bookkeeper, and our Chair of Trustees.
Key Responsibilities
- Review the annual financial statements and compare them against accounting records and bank statements.
- Check compliance with relevant charity accounting rules and the Charities Act.
- Identify and ask for explanations regarding any unusual items or disclosures.
- Complete and sign the formal Independent Examiner's Report for the trustees.
