Our pro bono Independent Examiner is retiring after five years, and we seek a qualified replacement.
You will be helping children succeed in education.
What difference will you make?
The impact on the charity is to save us the cost and bureaucracy of employing a paid accountancy firm to perform this role.
This will let us devote more of our funding to direct support of children's education. This is phenomenally helpful for a small charity in the current funding environment.

What are we looking for?
The ideal volunteer will be a qualified and experienced accountant, motivated by our mission to help children achieve their potential, and willing to devote time on an annual cycle to perform the role.
Your accounting experience can be inside or outside the profession.
Specific experience in acting as an Independent Examiner or of other regulatory sign-off would of course be useful, but we do not require this.

What will you be doing?
The role of the Independent Examiner is defined in statute (Charities Act 2011). Basically it is to review the Annual Report and Accounts and the underlying records and to express an opinion on whether (i) correct records were kept and (ii) the accounts are in accordance.
Effectively it is a simple and less thorough (though still rigorous) audit.
