Job Title: Independent Prescriber

Salary: £45,000 FTE
Location: Remote from the UK
Hours: 37.5 hours a week with availability in evenings three times a week. No weekends
Fixed term contract: 2 years

About the role:

As an Independent Prescriber, you will conduct clinical assessments and reviews of clients eligible for GLP-1 medication for weight management, issuing prescriptions to those who meet the criteria. Additionally, you will provide ongoing support to ensure clients manage their medication safely and effectively throughout the process.

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct clinical assessments to determine client suitability for GLP-1 medication, including checking for contraindications with current medications.
  • Issue prescriptions remotely and manage medication reviews and repeat prescriptions.
  • Provide support calls to clients during the medication titration period.
  • Address client queries, including concerns about adverse side effects of the medication.
  • Develop and update client resources for the GLP-1 medication pathway.
  • Document client notes securely within the appropriate system.
  • Refer clients to the specialist dietitian and liaise with the wider MDT as needed.
  • Communicate with clinical admin to update trackers and send out relevant correspondence, and deliver patient education sessions as required.

About You:

We are seeking a candidate who can demonstrate continuous professional development and has experience in healthcare assessments, care planning, and key working. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the challenges faced by individuals living with obesity, and be skilled in working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team. Additionally, we require someone with excellent organizational and time management skills, proficiency in IT, and the ability to accurately maintain records and client information.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified healthcare professional (pharmacist or nurse) that has completed and passed a GPhC-accredited Independent Prescribing course
  • Clinical experience in weight management and obesity care, including prescribing GLP-1 medications.
  • Previous experience as an Independent Prescriber with a focus on remote healthcare delivery.
  • Trained in safer injecting techniques and managing weight management therapies.
  • Skilled in virtual consultations and providing remote patient support.
