Role Description
The Independent Assessor for the Level 6 Youth Worker Degree Apprenticeship will be responsible for conducting fair, consistent, and robust assessments of apprentices’ knowledge, skills, and behaviors against the apprenticeship standards. Day-to-day activities include:

- Reviewing portfolios and evidence
- Planning and conducting assessment interviews
- Observing practice where required
- Providing clear, structured feedback and grading in line with university and regulatory requirements

The role involves maintaining accurate assessment records, participating in standardization and quality assurance activities, and collaborating with other assessors to ensure assessments remain current, valid, and reliable. This is a hybrid role based at home and various students' locations, with a mix of on-placement assessment, presentation, and observations. Some work can be carried out from home, such as evidence review and documentation.
Qualifications
- BA or MA in Youth and Community Work with JNC accreditation
- Strong assessment and evaluation skills, including experience of assessing degree-level or professional practice and applying formal standards or frameworks.
- In-depth knowledge of youth work practice, policy, and ethics, with the ability to critically appraise apprentices’ work in real-world contexts.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to conduct structured assessment interviews and provide clear, constructive feedback.
- High level of organization and attention to detail, with confidence using digital tools for record-keeping, remote assessment, and reporting.
- Understanding of apprenticeship frameworks and quality assurance processes, with the ability to work independently and uphold impartiality in assessment.
- Experience working within higher education, professional training, or a regulated environment is an advantage.
