Role Description
As an Indirect Tax Manager, you will be the subject matter expert for Indirect Taxes and provide the Allianz UK Group with specialist indirect tax expertise, supporting the business across VAT, Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) and other indirect tax obligations. You will be responsible for delivering comprehensive compliance, reporting, advisory and tax risk management services, helping the business navigate a complex and evolving tax landscape while supporting key strategic initiatives.
Location: This role is based in our Guildford office, this is a hybrid working role with the expectation that you will attend the office Monday and Thursday each week.
Salary Information
- Pay: Circa £95K per year.
- Pay is based on relevant experience, skills for the role, and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.
About You
As an Indirect Tax Manager, you will;
- Be responsible for managing all indirect tax matters
- Managing and coaching Tax Accountants who support your role
- Lead the preparation and review of VAT, IPT and other indirect tax returns, ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements and deadlines.
- Provide specialist indirect tax advice to stakeholders across Finance, Operations, Underwriting, Claims, Procurement and Technology.
- Support business change and transformation projects, ensuring indirect tax implications are identified and addressed at an early stage.
- Maintain and enhance indirect tax governance, controls and risk management frameworks.
- Proactively manage HMRC enquiries, audits and information requests.
- Identify opportunities to improve indirect tax processes, systems and controls through automation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, assessing the impact of changes on the Allianz UK Group and communicating recommendations to stakeholders.
- Play an active role in business planning by building strong relationships with key stakeholders and providing commercially focused tax advice.
- Support and develop colleagues within the wider tax function, promoting best practice and technical excellence.

Essential Skills
- Fully qualified CTA or equivalent professional qualification.
- Proven experience across UK indirect taxes, including VAT and Insurance Premium Tax (IPT).
- Experience working within the insurance sector or another partially exempt business, with a strong understanding of partial exemption methodologies and VAT recovery principles.
- Extensive knowledge of indirect tax compliance, reporting and governance requirements.
- Experience managing indirect tax risk and maintaining effective control frameworks.
- Ability to interpret complex tax legislation and clearly communicate technical issues to non-tax stakeholders.
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Highly developed analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Attention to detail whilst maintaining an understanding of wider commercial objectives.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and broader Microsoft Office skills.

Desirable Skills
- Experience working within a large multinational insurance or financial services organisation.
- Experience designing, implementing or reviewing partial exemption special methods.
- Experience managing HMRC audits, reviews and enquiries.
- Familiarity with SAP, OneSource or similar finance and tax reporting systems.
- Experience leading indirect tax process improvement, automation or digital tax initiatives.
- Understanding of cross-border VAT and international indirect tax issues.
- Self-motivated with excellent project and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Responsible Artificial Intelligence usage, including the effective and ethical use of AI tools to improve productivity, insight and decision-making.
