Overview of the Firm
You'll be joining a leading UK challenger accountancy and advisory firm with offices across London, Leeds and Manchester. As part of a well-established international network, the firm offers access to colleagues and clients across more than 150 countries, providing a truly global platform while retaining a collaborative and entrepreneurial culture.
The firm provides audit, accountancy, tax and advisory services, with a strong reputation for helping clients navigate complex technical challenges. You'll work with a diverse client base across sectors including insurance, financial services, capital markets and the not-for-profit sector, supporting businesses and individuals through a range of high-profile and technically demanding matters.
The Tax Team
You'll be joining a growing Tax division that delivers VAT, Corporate Tax, Transfer Pricing, Personal Tax, Global Mobility and Employment Tax compliance and advisory services. The team is known for its high-quality client service, technical expertise and collaborative approach.
The VAT team works with a broad portfolio of clients ranging from owner-managed businesses to large corporates across sectors including insurance, financial services, fintech, crypto, property and retail. Alongside day-to-day advisory work, the team is regularly involved in transactions such as restructurings, demergers, acquisitions and disposals.
The Opportunity
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious VAT professional to join a growing and successful team. You'll be based in either London, Leeds or Manchester and will work closely with Directors and Partners, delivering high-quality VAT advice whilst managing your own portfolio of clients. You may bring expertise in specialist areas such as IPT or Customs Duty, but your primary focus will be providing VAT advisory support across a broad range of sectors. You'll be expected to work independently, review work to a high standard and produce client deliverables that require minimal senior review.

Key Responsibilities
You'll be responsible for:
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships through responsive, clear and commercially focused advice.
- Identifying opportunities to develop advisory projects from day-to-day client queries.
- Managing your own portfolio, including WIP, billing and fee recovery.
- Advising on a wide range of VAT issues, including international expansion, new income streams and HMRC disputes.
- Supporting Directors and Partners in delivering advisory projects.
- Managing and developing junior team members where appropriate.
Additional Project Work
You'll also have opportunities to get involved in:
- Tender and proposal support.
- Business development and client generation initiatives.
- VAT due diligence work.
- Providing specialist VAT input into audit engagements.
- Delivering VAT training to colleagues.
- Reviewing complex VAT returns, including those for partly exempt organisations and non-resident property owners.
People Management
Following probation, you'll have the opportunity to manage one or more direct reports. The firm places a strong emphasis on professional development and provides extensive internal and external training. Alongside managing your own progression, you'll be encouraged to support the development of more junior team members.

What You'll Bring
Technical Skills & Experience
- Strong VAT advisory experience gained within practice.
- Excellent understanding of VAT legislation and principles.
- Ability to explain complex VAT matters to non-specialists.
- Up-to-date VAT technical knowledge across a broad range of business issues.
- Experience managing client portfolios profitably.
- Strong report-writing and advisory skills, including due diligence work.
- Excellent attention to detail when reviewing contracts, legislation, case law and HMRC guidance.
- Ability to produce clear, concise and commercially focused written advice.
- Strong Microsoft Word skills, with Excel and PowerPoint experience being advantageous.

Qualifications
The following qualifications would be beneficial but are not essential:
- ACA, CA, CTA or equivalent professional qualification
