VAT Risk & Governance Manager / Senior Manager - London
This role plays a key role in overseeing VAT risk governance across a complex, multi-jurisdictional environment. The position is responsible for driving the continued enhancement of VAT risk frameworks, controls, and assurance programmes, ensuring regulatory compliance while supporting effective risk management across the organisation.
Working closely with Tax, Finance, Risk, Audit, and business stakeholders, the role provides strategic oversight and challenge, helping to embed robust VAT controls within business processes, support transformation initiatives, and deliver insight into emerging risks, control effectiveness, and remediation priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the development, maintenance, and enhancement of VAT risk and assurance frameworks, controls, and governance standards.
- Manage and coordinate assurance activities, including risk assessments, control testing, and reviews of VAT compliance requirements.
- Provide oversight and challenge on VAT risks, control gaps, and remediation activities, ensuring issues are appropriately identified and addressed.
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to strengthen VAT governance and embed effective controls within operational processes.
- Prepare and present reporting on VAT risk exposure, assurance outcomes, key themes, and remediation progress to senior stakeholders.
- Support the evolution of assurance programmes to reflect regulatory developments, business change, and emerging risk areas.
- Contribute VAT risk expertise to business transformation, technology, and regulatory initiatives, ensuring appropriate governance and control considerations are incorporated.
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders on VAT governance, risk management, and control effectiveness.

- Significant experience in VAT advisory, VAT governance, risk management, or indirect tax controls within a complex organisation.
- Strong understanding of VAT legislation and its practical application across large-scale, multi-jurisdictional operations.
- Demonstrated experience designing, assessing, or overseeing VAT control frameworks and assurance programmes.
- Proven ability to influence stakeholders and drive risk and control improvements across multiple business functions.
- Experience managing VAT risk considerations within transformation, process improvement, or regulatory change initiatives.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively at senior management level.
