Indirect Tax / VAT Manager

We are seeking an experienced Indirect Tax / VAT Manager to join a growing tax advisory team. The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of Irish and international clients, providing specialist advice across VAT and broader indirect tax matters.

The role offers a strong mix of technical advisory work, client management and team leadership, with exposure to complex domestic and cross-border transactions across a range of industries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of clients and act as a key point of contact for VAT and indirect tax matters.
  • Provide practical and commercially focused advice on Irish and international VAT.
  • Advise on the VAT implications of domestic and cross-border transactions.
  • Support clients with VAT registrations, compliance and reporting obligations.
  • Advise on VAT treatment, recovery and deductibility.
  • Review complex transactions and contracts from an indirect tax perspective.
  • Advise clients on property-related VAT, where relevant.
  • Provide indirect tax support on acquisitions, disposals, restructurings and M&A transactions.
  • Undertake VAT due diligence and identify potential tax exposures and opportunities.
  • Advise clients on VAT implications associated with supply chains, imports, exports and international expansion.
  • Support clients with Revenue audits, queries and interventions.
  • Monitor developments in Irish and EU VAT legislation and communicate their impact to clients.
  • Assist businesses with improving VAT processes, controls and governance.
  • Work closely with Corporate Tax, International Tax, Transfer Pricing and Transaction Services teams.
  • Review work completed by junior team members and provide technical guidance.
  • Manage engagements, budgets, deadlines and overall client delivery.

Client & Team Management

  • Build strong relationships with CFOs, Finance Directors, Tax Directors and Financial Controllers.
  • Develop a strong understanding of clients' businesses and identify potential indirect tax risks and opportunities.
  • Manage and mentor Assistant Managers, Seniors and junior tax professionals.
  • Support the development of technical knowledge across the wider team.
  • Contribute to client proposals, pitches and business development initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships and generate new advisory work.

Candidate Requirements

  • CTA/AITI, ACA, ACCA or equivalent qualification is desirable.
  • Strong experience within VAT / Indirect Tax, ideally gained within a Big 4, Top 10, professional services firm or large corporate tax function.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Irish and EU VAT legislation.
  • Experience advising clients on complex VAT matters.
  • Knowledge of cross-border transactions and international VAT considerations.
  • Exposure to areas such as property VAT, financial services VAT, customs or M&A would be advantageous.
  • Experience dealing with Revenue and managing VAT audits or queries.
  • Strong commercial and analytical skills.
  • Excellent client relationship and stakeholder-management capabilities.
  • Ability to explain complex VAT issues clearly to non-tax stakeholders.
  • Experience managing and developing junior team members.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced VAT / Indirect Tax Manager or an Assistant Manager ready to progress into a broader management position.

The role offers significant client exposure, a strong emphasis on advisory rather than purely compliance work, and clear progression opportunities towards Senior Manager and Director level.
