Industrial Costing Manager in Derby

Location: Derby (onsite)
Appointment Basis: Permanent

Salary: circa £53,000 - £55,000 DOE plus bonus and excellent benefits

More Than a Job: A Mission

You will be responsible for performing industrial cost calculations for new products and/or process solutions within the industrial scope. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (Engineering, Project Management, Supply Chain, and Industrial Quality), define and validate Make or Buy assumptions, and maintain the workload plan for the Process and Manufacturing Engineering (PME) department.

Your Role, Your Impact

  • Collaborating with Engineering, Project, Supply Chain, Industrial, and Quality teams to gather relevant data for costing activities.
  • Define and maintain the PME department workload plan based on the S&OP demand plan.
  • Update and maintain industrial costs within the Reference Library.
  • Conduct specific analyses upon request (e.g., Time Spent vs. Method Time).
  • Support and contribute to Alstom Industrial Improvement plan implementation.

Industrial costing activities are required in the following scenarios:

  • Development of a new product.
  • Development of a new process or manufacturing technology.
  • During the tender phase of a project, including defining and validating PIO and Make-or-Buy assumptions.
  • Prior to decisions related to Make-or-Buy changes.
  • Transfer of activities.
  • Implementation of major product or process changes.

You'll work with sharp, committed teams solving complex challenges that shape the future of mobility, ensuring seamless integration of business and technology.

What You Bring

  • Experience or understanding of industrial costing processes, including fixed industrialization costs, variable production costs, quality inspection costs, and supply chain variable costs.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing technologies, industrial processes, and cost structure analysis.
  • Proficiency in cost estimation tools and software, as well as MS Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Collaborative approach with the ability to influence stakeholders through data-driven insights.

  • Accuracy and timeliness of cost deliverables supporting project bids and decisions.
  • Effectiveness in cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
  • Reduction in cost variances and improvement in forecasting precision.
