Job Description

About the Role

The Industrial Engineering Manager will provide technical and operational leadership within the Stafford Manufacturing facility, ensuring that manufacturing equipment, tooling, infrastructure, and industrial processes are capable, reliable, safe, and aligned with the current and future production requirements of the business.

The successful candidate will lead the development, improvement, maintenance, installation, and commissioning of manufacturing equipment and industrial infrastructure, supporting production capacity, operational reliability, safety, quality, cost, and delivery objectives.

The role will partner closely with Manufacturing, Product and Process Engineering, Lean, EHS, Quality, Supply Chain, and Projects to ensure that equipment and facilities are properly specified, maintained, and developed to support the site's stabilisation, ramp-up, and industrialisation strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Industrial Engineering and Maintenance function, ensuring manufacturing equipment, tooling, and infrastructure are safe, reliable, capable, and available to meet production requirements.
  • Develop and execute the site's equipment and industrial infrastructure strategy, aligned with production volumes, capacity requirements, technology roadmap, and business growth.
  • Own and continuously improve the site's preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategy, driving equipment reliability, availability, and reduction of unplanned downtime.
  • Establish and monitor key equipment performance indicators, including equipment availability, downtime, MTBF, MTTR, maintenance compliance, and critical equipment performance.
  • Lead the identification and implementation of equipment improvements, refurbishments, and upgrades to improve safety, quality, productivity, capacity, and reliability.
  • Lead the technical definition, specification, procurement, installation, commissioning, and acceptance of new manufacturing equipment and production systems.
  • Manage industrial projects from concept through implementation, including technical specifications, supplier selection, CAPEX justification, project planning, installation, commissioning, and handover to Operations.
  • Ensure effective production readiness for new equipment and associated processes and capacity expansions, including equipment qualification, tooling, utilities, documentation, maintenance plans, spare parts, and operator/maintenance training.
  • Develop and maintain an effective critical equipment and spare-parts strategy, ensuring appropriate risk mitigation for equipment that could constrain production or create significant operational disruption.
  • Drive structured equipment problem-solving and root-cause analysis for recurring breakdowns, reliability issues, and production losses, ensuring robust corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support manufacturing capacity analysis and capacity improvement, identifying equipment constraints and implementing technical solutions to support production ramp-up.
  • Ensure manufacturing equipment and infrastructure comply with applicable EHS, machinery safety, statutory, and regulatory requirements, including appropriate risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Coordinate external contractors, equipment manufacturers, and technical service providers during maintenance, installation, and commissioning activities.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate equipment documentation, including technical files, drawings, maintenance instructions, preventive maintenance schedules, spare-parts lists, and equipment history.
  • Develop the technical capability of the Industrial Engineering and Maintenance teams through coaching, standard work, skills development, and effective resource planning.
  • Work closely with the Manufacturing Lean Leader and Process Engineering to ensure equipment improvements support flow, standard work, workplace organisation, productivity, and overall manufacturing transformation.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
