Senior Manufacturing Industrialisation Engineer
Location: Leeds, UK
Working Arrangement: Full-time | Primarily On-Site
Salary: £50,000–£65,000
About the Company
Our client is an innovative medical technology company developing next-generation dissolvable microneedle patch technology and the automated systems used to manufacture, load, and package these products. As the business continues to scale, they are transitioning from prototype development into repeatable, high-volume manufacturing and are looking for an experienced Manufacturing Industrialisation Engineer to play a key role in this exciting phase of growth.
The Opportunity
This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of the industrialisation process, leading the transition of innovative products and automated equipment from prototype through to scalable, cost-effective manufacture.
Initially, the role will focus on transferring 3D-printed and machined components into injection moulded production while supporting the industrialisation of automated assembly stations and production equipment. You'll work closely with external manufacturers and toolmakers, driving Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) activities to ensure robust, repeatable manufacturing processes.
This role offers significant autonomy, direct collaboration with senior leadership, and the opportunity to shape the future manufacturing strategy of an exciting MedTech business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the industrialisation of medical device components, applicators, and automated manufacturing stations.
- Drive Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) reviews.
- Transition prototype components into injection moulded production.
- Review component design for wall thickness, draft angles, ribs, gates, ejector locations, shrinkage, and tolerances.
- Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes.
- Produce and review engineering drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Prepare comprehensive RFQ packages for manufacturers and tooling suppliers.
- Evaluate and qualify external manufacturers and tooling partners.
- Lead technical discussions, tooling reviews, and supplier design reviews.
- Coordinate tooling trials, first-off samples, and production improvements.
- Investigate and resolve manufacturing issues including flash, sink, warpage, and dimensional variation.
- Define first article inspection and production acceptance criteria.
- Support equipment qualification, manufacturing validation, and process capability activities.
- Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing cost, product quality, repeatability, and assembly efficiency.
- Provide technical mentoring and support to other engineers.
- Collaborate closely with Supply Chain and Operations throughout the manufacturing transfer process.

About You
You'll be an experienced manufacturing or industrialisation engineer who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges and working closely with suppliers to bring products into production.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Significant experience industrialising products or automated equipment.
- Strong knowledge of injection moulded plastic component design.
- Hands-on experience working directly with manufacturers, moulders, and toolmakers.
- Strong Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) expertise.
- Experience creating and reviewing production drawings and engineering tolerances.
- Proven experience transferring prototype designs into repeatable manufacturing.
- Ability to evaluate first-off components and resolve manufacturing defects.
- Strong CAD skills and technical problem-solving ability.
- Understanding of tooling costs, manufacturing capability, and production risk.
- Experience managing multiple industrialisation projects simultaneously.
- Full right to work in the UK.

Desirable Experience
- Medical devices, drug delivery systems, or other regulated industries.
- Experience with engineering polymers such as Polycarbonate or Polypropylene.
- Products requiring sterilisation or controlled manufacturing environments.
- Mould flow analysis and GD&T.
- CNC machining, fabrication, laser cutting, or additive manufacturing.
- Supplier qualification, First Article Inspection (FAI), or PPAP.
- ISO 13485, ISO 9001, or GMP environments.
- Process validation and equipment qualification.
- Automated machinery or bespoke manufacturing equipment.
- Previous mentoring or technical leadership experience.
