We have an exciting opportunity for an Industrial Placement Student to join our European Financial Shared Services (EFSS) team on a 12-month fixed-term contract at our Shirley, UK office in the Midlands. The EFSS team supports 40+ corporate entities for their compliance needs and safeguards them through the annual cycle of tax and audit requirements with additional project works as mandated by the corporation.
What you will do:
- Support the Record to Report (R2R) department with compliance and process activities (Process Mapping, Balance Sheet Review, Journal Controls).
- Complete reviews of R2R Balance Sheet reconciliation samples to ensure high quality delivery of compliance.
- Administer banking portals as a joint bank-administrator.
- Work with the Balance Sheet Accountant to strengthen R2R journal compliance processes.
- Adherence to the business-critical internal control framework (Sarbanes Oxley, SOX).
- Add value to the organization by ensuring that internal control processes are carried out efficiently and effectively in the R2R workgroup.
- Support with the Accounting and Control Assessments from Regional HQ along with Internal Audit from RTX Corporate and annual External Audit from our third-party auditors. Ensure each assessment is completed, all information delivered and resulting actions completed timely.
- Actively participate in continuous improvement activities in your area to ensure all non-value-added activities are eliminated to enable process optimization.

What will you learn:

This placement offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in Record to Report (R2R) accounting, with a strong focus on financial controls, balance sheet reconciliations, journal compliance and SOX requirements. You will develop an understanding of audit processes, banking administration and internal controls, while working with different teams to support compliance and continuous improvement. This role will also strengthen your analytical, problem-solving, communication and stakeholder management skills.
Qualifications and experience we prefer:
- Candidates must currently be studying towards a degree in Finance/Accounting or related field
- Eager to learn and committed to achieving both business and personal results whilst working collaboratively in a fast-paced customer financial services environment, operating to agreed targets and SLAs
- Able to deliver great customer service to a wide range of employees, handling sensitive information appropriately with discretion and integrity
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
- Strong attention to detail to ensure high levels of accuracy in work
- Proficient in IT with strong expertise in Microsoft Office applications. Experience using SAP will be advantageous
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage priorities and meet key deadlines effectively.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

This is a full-time hybrid role with the hours of work being 08:00 – 16:45 Mon to Thurs and 08:00 – 12:00 noon on Friday. You will work 4 days remotely and 1 day at the Shirley office.
