Job Overview
The post holder will support the implementation of the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative within Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust in line with the relevant objectives within the LMNS and following the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative standards. The post holder will support the Infant Feeding Lead to promote evidence-based feeding support and work collaboratively to improve outcomes for babies and families. Foster an organisational culture that protects the Baby Friendly standards.
Main duties of the job
- To provide individualised specialist advice for mothers and babies with breastfeeding difficulties
- To support the implementation and accreditation of Baby Friendly Initiative Standards (BFI) across the trust ensuring support and advice are universal and that best practice and training opportunities are shared across all departments.
- Work with the Infant Feeding Lead to deliver mandatory training package, practical skills reviews and updates days for maternity unit staff. Support training needs for neonatal and paediatric staff
- Provide an expert resource for staff caring for mothers and babies with complex feeding issues. Making accountable decisions based on knowledge and experience in respect of patient care
- Support with delivery of Antenatal Education surrounding Infant Feeding.
- Contribute to service delivery and innovation, ensuring that the service is delivered in line with local, national and trust standards
- To be responsible for complying with professional confidentiality guidelines.
- Effectively manage own time to ensure a balance between audit, clinical and administrative duties
- At times of clinical escalation to support the acute inpatient services.
- Act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct at all times

Hospital Transformation Programme (HTP)
Our Service will relocate to The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in 2028 as part of HTP. This move will bring specialist services together in a modern, purpose-built facility to improve patient care and team experience.
We are actively recruiting, and successful candidates will be expected to move with the Service in early 2028. The relocation will follow a formal management of change process, including full consultation and support for staff.
