Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Developmental Role
Are you a registered healthcare professional with an interest in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and a passion for improving patient safety and quality of care?
We have a vacancy within our team for a band 5 developmental role. This role has been designed to support progression to a Band 6 Infection Prevention and Control Practitioner position.
You will work alongside experienced IPC practitioners and receive support and supervision while undertaking a structured development programme. Progression will be subject to successful achievement of the agreed competency framework, required training and qualifications, and demonstration of the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed for autonomous Band 6 practice.
Please note visa sponsorship for this role is unfortunately not available. Ensure you hold valid right to work in the UK and will not require sponsorship if successful.
Working with the support and guidance of senior IPC colleagues, you will:
- Provide Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) advice, education and guidance to staff, patients and service users. Support clinical teams to assess and manage infection risks, implement appropriate precautions and promote compliance with IPC policies and evidence-based practice.
- Participate in the assessment and management of IPC incidents and outbreaks, supporting investigations, timely interventions and accurate record keeping.
- Contribute to IPC surveillance, clinical audit, post-infection reviews, service evaluation and quality improvement, using findings to improve patient safety and standards of care.
- Support the review and development of IPC policies and contribute to the design and delivery of IPC education and training.
- Analyse IPC information, identify risks and opportunities for improvement, and develop the confidence to appropriately challenge poor practice.
- Maintain awareness of national IPC guidance and evidence and apply this to practice.
- Undertake the agreed Band 5 to Band 6 development programme, building the specialist clinical, professional, leadership and educational competencies required for autonomous IPC practice.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
