Job Overview
As a valued member of the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Team, you will provide expert advice, guidance, and support to clinical and non-clinical staff on all aspects of infection prevention, surveillance, and control. You will play a key role in promoting a culture of patient safety and supporting the organisation's commitment to reducing healthcare-associated infections.
Working collaboratively with colleagues across a range of services, you will support the implementation of national and local infection prevention initiatives, policies, and best practice guidance. You will contribute to surveillance programmes, ensuring the accurate collection, analysis, and reporting of infection-related data to support quality improvement and regulatory compliance.
The role requires a proactive and visible presence within clinical services, acting as an IPC role model and providing support, challenge, and education to staff at all levels. You will work alongside care teams to identify risks, promote best practice, and support continuous improvement in infection prevention standards across the organisation.
As an effective communicator, you will build strong relationships with multidisciplinary teams, helping to embed evidence-based infection prevention practices and deliver the highest standards of patient care.
Main duties of the job
Infection Prevention Specialist
As an Infection Prevention Specialist, you will provide expert IPC advice, support, and education across Provide Group, working with clinical and non-clinical teams to reduce healthcare-associated infections, manage risks, and improve patient safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist IPC advice and support across services.
- Support national and local IPC policies, standards, and surveillance programmes.
- Undertake audits, analyse data, and identify risks, trends, and improvement opportunities.
- Support infection incident and outbreak investigation and management.
- Deliver IPC education, training, and awareness programmes.
- Contribute to the annual IPC Programme, improvement plans, and assurance reporting.
- Undertake clinical reviews, walkrounds, and audits.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams to identify and mitigate IPC risks.
- Promote evidence-based practice, including hand hygiene, PPE, and antimicrobial stewardship.
- Challenge poor practice and support regulatory compliance.
- Champion patient safety, learning, and continuous improvement.

About You
You will be a registered healthcare professional with an interest in IPC, patient safety, and quality improvement. You will have strong communication, influencing, and analytical skills, with the ability to work collaboratively, interpret data, provide evidence-based advice, and support sustainable change. Experience in IPC, audit, surveillance, education, or quality improvement is desirable.
