Job Overview
The Gastroenterology Directorate has an exciting opportunity for an Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Pathway Coordinator. This pivotal role is key to supporting the effective management and coordination of patient pathways within the Gastroenterology service. The post holder will work closely with multidisciplinary teams and key stakeholders to ensure high standards of patient care, facilitate efficient service delivery, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the IBD pathway across the Directorate. The successful candidate will play an important role in enhancing the patient experience by supporting timely access to care and maintaining effective communication throughout the patient journey.
Main duties of the job
The role will include management of patient pathways, oversight of waiting lists, administration of the IBD helpline, clinic booking and scheduling, maintenance of patient databases, and ensuring timely communication with patients and healthcare professionals.
- They will work within dedicated specialty clinical areas to facilitate the smooth running of the patient journey by ensuring that coordinated and streamlined administrative processes revolve around the patient and their individual needs.
- The post holder will implement all administrative processes along the patient pathway, to ensure the patient’s journey is managed efficiently and in accordance with agreed targets and priorities.
- Provide cross-cover to ensure a consistent and effective administrative service is maintained at all times across the Gastroenterology service.
- The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications And/or Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Educated to A level standard or equivalent qualification or sufficient relevant experience.
- Relevant practical experience incorporates the use of Myrddin Administration System and Clinical Workstation for recording or validating of clinical activity to diploma level equivalent.
- Previous experience of, or exposure to, validation elements required to maintain accurate patient pathways on Myrddin.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Gastroenterology pathways
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of writing and ability to produce documents
- Experience of analysing and interpreting information to identify variance in performance and identifying solutions
- Knowledge of RTT Waiting Times
- Experience of outpatient booking
- Experience of maintaining databases, spreadsheets and producing accurate administrative reports.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of implementing service improvement
- Understanding of how to interpret analytical data
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to develop and maintain communication both verbal and in writing
- Ability to identify key issues and problems in a situation
- Ability to apply influencing and negotiation skills necessary to achieve successful outcomes.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- IT literacy skills including a well-developed knowledge of excel
Desirable criteria
- Awareness of the current NHS climate including necessity for improvement
