Overview
The London Borough of Harrow is seeking an Information Assistant (Weekend) to join its library service and play a key role in delivering an excellent customer experience. The successful candidate will welcome all library customers, identify their individual needs, and actively support them in making full use of the facilities, services, and resources available. They will engage positively with customers throughout their visit, providing guidance, information, and assistance to ensure a high-quality and accessible service for all users.
Working as part of a dedicated library team, the postholder will contribute to the effective day-to-day operation of the library, helping to create a welcoming, inclusive, and customer-focused environment. The role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, a proactive approach to customer service, and a commitment to supporting the diverse needs of the local community. While based at a specific library branch, the Information Assistant will be required to provide relief cover at any branch within the Harrow Library Service as needed. Branch locations and rota patterns may be subject to change in line with service requirements, and flexibility will be essential to support the delivery of weekend library services across the borough.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
