Information & Document Controls Manager

📍 Manchester Area | 12 Month Contract Opportunity | Hybrid Working | Major Infrastructure Programme

Our client is seeking an experienced Information & Document Controls Manager / Information Manager to lead the governance, control, and continuous improvement of project and asset information across a large-scale infrastructure programme.

This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring information is accurate, compliant, secure, traceable, and accessible throughout the full project lifecycle, while driving best practice in document control, digital information management, and project handover processes.

The Role

As the Information & Document Controls Manager, you will take ownership of information governance, compliance, assurance activities, and digital information systems. You'll work closely with project teams, engineers, quality functions, and stakeholders to ensure robust information management processes are embedded across the programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of information management strategies, procedures, standards, and systems.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 19650 and other relevant information management frameworks.
  • Manage the full information lifecycle, including creation, review, approval, distribution, retention, archiving, and retrieval.
  • Oversee information security, governance, metadata control, permissions, and audit trails.
  • Conduct information management audits and drive corrective actions where required.
  • Administer and optimise EDMS and Common Data Environment (CDE) platforms.
  • Manage stakeholder information requirements, reporting, submissions, and project handovers.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop document control and information management teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, automation opportunities, and process efficiencies.

What We're Looking For

Essential Experience

  • Significant experience within Information Management and Document Control, including leadership or managerial responsibilities.
  • Strong background supporting engineering, construction, infrastructure, or major project environments.
  • Demonstrable experience managing and implementing EDMS/CDE solutions.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and support complex project delivery.
  • Experience in compliance assurance, information audits, security controls, and corrective action planning.
  • Strong understanding of ISO 19650 and recognised information management standards.
  • Experience managing information handovers, closeout activities, and asset information requirements.

Desirable

  • Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Information Management, Business Administration, or related discipline.
  • Professional certifications in Information Management, BIM, Quality Management, Project Management, PRINCE2, PMP, or similar.

Technical Skills

  • Experience with one or more of the following:
    • ProjectWise
    • Documentum
    • SharePoint
    • Other EDMS/CDE platforms
    • Microsoft Office Suite
    • Power BI
    • Information registers, metadata management, transmittals, and structured handover processes.

Key Attributes

  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • High attention to detail with a focus on compliance, traceability, and auditability.
  • Analytical and solution-focused mindset.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities within fast-paced project environments.
  • Strong understanding of information governance, confidentiality, and cyber security principles.
