The Information Governance Team
The Information Governance Team plays a key role in the Council’s corporate governance arrangements, helping the Council to protect the personal data that the organisation holds and making sure it meets its legal obligations. The busy team supports the Council in meeting the requirements of the Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR and other legislation, protecting personal data and ensuring that information rights are upheld. The team works closely together providing support, advice and guidance to the Council through working with services across the organisation and in partner organisations.
What is the job role?
We are looking for an Information Governance Assistant to join our team to support the Council’s responsibilities for data protection and information rights.
This role plays an important part in helping the Council meet its statutory responsibilities for protecting data and meeting information rights. You will be the first point of contact for public access to information under the Freedom of Information Act, Environmental Information Regulations and for individuals making requests about the personal data that the Council holds about them primarily Subject Access Requests. You will also be responsible for managing phone calls and emails received into the Information Governance team. Meeting these fundamental rights and helping ensure openness and transparency is both rewarding and challenging.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
