Information Security Technical Lead

Location: London 1-2 days onsite
Contract Length: 6 months
Day Rate / Pay: £600-£625/day INSIDE IR35
Start Date: ASAP

The Information Security Technical Lead role supports one of the UK’s leading digital businesses by managing a wide range of security initiatives, from operational incident response to strategic security planning. The position involves collaborating with development and IT teams to implement security measures and ensure ongoing protection of assets. Strong technical skills in as many of the following are needed - SNMP, TCP/IP, DNS, SANS, OSCP, Cloud Security, Windows/Linux Security, Firewalls, IDS, EDR & SIEM, etc.

Role entails:

  • Responding to queries and advising technology and development teams on areas of best practice relating to application, network, endpoint, and cloud security.
  • Working collaboratively with the teams to help deliver projects in the above-mentioned areas and providing ongoing security expertise to support delivery efforts.
  • Working with the Information Security team to design, implement, and maintain the technical controls and defences used to protect assets and systems (EDR, SIEM, WAF, etc.).
  • Being a key contributor in the migration of both the website hosting estate and the corporate IT estate from established on-premise hosting facilities to cloud hosting environments, covering SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS.
  • Helping embed security best practices into the software development process.
  • Working with the Information Security team and external partners on ongoing assurance activities (penetration tests, 'red team' engagements, security assessments, etc.).
  • Investigating security incidents impacting website, office, and SaaS IT estates.
  • Participating in, or leading, technical incident response activities such as malware triage, eDiscovery, log analysis, forensic examinations, etc.
  • Maintaining and improving vulnerability management, scanning, and remediation systems and capabilities.
  • Undertaking threat hunts to proactively discover compromises before they lead to adverse security outcomes for the organisation.
  • Advising on, and helping implement, Information Security policy across the organisation.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 3+ years working in a 50% HANDS-ON/50% HANDS-OFF Technical Lead Security-based role
  • A degree in Computer Science, Computer Security, or an equivalent high-level security qualification (e.g., SANS Cyber Defence, EC-Council Certified Security Analyst, OSCP)
  • Experience working in IT security in a cloud-focused environment
  • Strong understanding of networking principles including TCP/IP, DNS, and Internet protocols like SMTP and HTTP
  • Ability to investigate security incidents, including malware triage, log analysis, and forensic examinations
  • Experience with designing, implementing, and maintaining technical controls such as EDR, SIEM, WAF
  • Knowledge of web application security, secure development practices, and deployment of Web Application Firewalls
  • Skilled in security incident triage techniques for MacOS, Windows, and Linux
  • Proficiency in using SIEM and security products to manage cyber incidents
  • Ability to review raw log files, data correlation, and analysis
  • Strong report writing and note-taking skills
  • Ability to manage workload, prioritise operational and project demands
  • Confident communicator across various stakeholder levels
