Technical Infrastructure Consultant – Microsoft / Azure / Networking

Location: Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire

Salary: Competitive / dependent on experience

Employment Type: Permanent

Clearance: Must be eligible to obtain SC Clearance

We're working with an established UK technology and managed services organisation looking to appoint a Technical Infrastructure Consultant to join its growing technical team in Welwyn Garden City.

This is a varied, customer-facing position combining technical consultancy, solution design, implementation and hands-on infrastructure support.

You'll work directly with customers to understand their technical requirements, design secure infrastructure solutions and support their implementation, while also contributing to the maintenance and continuous improvement of the organisation's internal IT environment.

The position would particularly suit an experienced Infrastructure Consultant, Technical Consultant, Cloud Consultant or Senior Infrastructure Engineer who combines strong Microsoft infrastructure knowledge with networking experience and enjoys remaining technically hands-on.

The Role

You'll be responsible for:

  • Designing and implementing secure technical solutions based on customer requirements.
  • Working directly with senior customer stakeholders to understand technical and business requirements.
  • Providing technical consultancy and advice throughout customer engagements.
  • Supporting the implementation and ongoing operation of customer infrastructure.
  • Providing technical support remotely and at customer premises where required.
  • Producing and contributing to detailed technical documentation including HLDs, LLDs and Statements of Work.
  • Contributing technical expertise to RFP, RFI and ITT responses.
  • Providing technical input during pre-sales engagements.
  • Supporting and continuously improving the organisation's internal IT environment.
  • Working across cloud, server, networking, virtualisation and security technologies.
  • Maintaining a hands-on approach to technical delivery and support alongside consultancy responsibilities.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Essential Experience

We're looking for candidates with strong experience across:

  • Microsoft Azure
  • Microsoft 365
  • Windows Server
  • Enterprise networking technologies.
  • Juniper, Cisco and/or HPE networking – Juniper would be particularly relevant.
  • Technical infrastructure design and implementation.
  • Customer-facing technical consultancy.
  • Gathering requirements and translating them into appropriate technical solutions.
  • Producing technical designs, proposals and documentation.
  • Providing advice and recommendations directly to customers.
  • Hands-on infrastructure support and troubleshooting.
  • Working comfortably with both technical and senior customer stakeholders.
  • Eligibility to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC).

This isn't intended to be a purely architectural or pre-sales position. We're particularly interested in people who are comfortable designing and recommending solutions while remaining involved in their implementation and support.

Desirable Experience

Any additional experience across the following would be advantageous:

  • Microsoft certifications such as AZ-104 or MS-102.
  • Cyber Essentials+ environments.
  • CIS benchmarks and infrastructure hardening.
  • Palo Alto and/or SonicWall firewalls.
  • VMware.
  • Hyper-V.
  • Proxmox.
  • Morpheus.
  • Physical server and storage infrastructure.
  • Cloud networking and security.
  • CCNP / CCNA.
  • JNCIP / JNCIA.
  • Commercially focused technical consultancy and pre-sales.

The Opportunity

You'll be joining an established technology organisation delivering secure infrastructure, cloud, networking and managed technology solutions to its customers.

The position offers considerably more breadth than a traditional infrastructure support role. You'll have the opportunity to work across the full technical lifecycle, from initial customer requirements and solution design through to implementation and ongoing support.

It's therefore an excellent opportunity for an experienced infrastructure professional who wants to continue developing their consultancy and solution-design capabilities without moving away from hands-on technology.

If you have a strong background across Microsoft infrastructure, Azure and networking and are comfortable working directly with customers to design and deliver technical solutions, we'd be keen to speak with you.
