Shape the Future of Technology at Simoco
Simoco is a global communications technology company delivering mission-critical solutions to customers across utilities, transport, mining, public safety and industrial sectors.
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on IT Manager to lead our internal technology function following the departure of our current IT Manager. This is a broad and influential role reporting directly to the Chief Technology & Product Officer, combining IT operations, cyber security, supplier management, governance, project delivery and business transformation. The position is based in Derby and supports colleagues across the UK whilst working closely with our Australian operations.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys both strategic responsibility and practical delivery. You will be the principal internal owner of Simoco's IT environment and the key relationship manager for our managed service provider, Air IT. The role provides real influence across technology, security, compliance and business improvement initiatives.
As IT Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring Simoco's IT services remain secure, reliable, cost-effective and aligned to business needs. You will:
- Own and manage day-to-day IT operations across the business.
- Act as the primary point of accountability for IT service performance and user experience.
- Lead the relationship with Air IT and other technology suppliers.
- Manage Microsoft 365, identity management, licensing and collaboration platforms.
- Coordinate cyber security activities, audits, vulnerability remediation and incident response.
- Support and maintain ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials and related compliance requirements.
- Manage IT budgets, renewals, contracts and supplier performance.
- Deliver infrastructure and business technology projects.
- Drive adoption of Microsoft 365, Copilot, automation and emerging technologies.
- Maintain business continuity, disaster recovery and backup controls.
- Provide concise reporting and recommendations to senior leadership.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
