Role Description
The Information Technology Support Officer is a full-time, on-site role based at the University of Bolton campus in Bolton. The role involves providing first-line and second-line technical support to staff and students, including diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and network issues.

The postholder will:


Get help with your application

- Respond to service desk tickets
- Manage user accounts and access permissions
- Install and configure workstations and peripherals
- Support audio-visual and classroom technologies
- Maintain documentation
- Monitor system performance
- Assist with routine maintenance and upgrades
- Escalate complex issues to senior IT staff or specialists as needed
The Information Technology Support Officer will work closely with colleagues across the University to ensure reliable, secure, and user-friendly IT services.
Qualifications
- Strong technical support skills across desktop operating systems, standard office applications, and basic networking concepts.
- Experience with hardware troubleshooting, including PCs, laptops, printers, and peripherals, and routine maintenance tasks.
- Ability to support user account management, access control, and incident handling within service desk or ticketing systems.
- Competence in supporting classroom and audio-visual technologies, including projectors, presentation tools, and learning spaces.
- Clear and courteous communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users and provide excellent customer service.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with attention to detail and a methodical approach to documentation and procedures.
- Relevant IT qualifications or certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Microsoft, Cisco) or equivalent experience in an IT support environment.
- Experience working within an educational or public sector setting is advantageous, along with an understanding of data protection and IT security best practices.
