Infrastructure BMC TrueSight Automation Consultant

Location: UK Remote
Contract Type: Freelance – 6 Months + Extensions

Role Summary

Responsible for creating and modifying automation scripts to check hardening status and roll out configurations as per MCS 2.0 (Minimum Configuration Settings advised by VF3). This role requires strong operating system knowledge and advanced scripting skills to support the stability, compliance, and continuous improvement of infrastructure automation across the environment.

Responsibilities

  • Create and modify automation scripts to check and roll out hardening status.
  • Ensure a deep understanding of OS behaviour and configuration changes.
  • Implement rollback procedures using scripts in the event of incidents.
  • Deploy and manage automation scripts using BMC TrueSight or similar orchestration tools.
  • Validate configurations against MCS 2.0 (Minimum Configuration Settings advised by VF3).
  • Troubleshoot script failures and remediate configuration drift across environments.
  • Document automation scripts, processes, and configuration standards.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and operations teams to maintain compliance.

Required Skills

  • Advanced automation and scripting skills: Shell, Bash, PowerShell, Ansible.
  • Experience deploying scripts using BMC TrueSight or similar automation/orchestration tools.
  • Strong working knowledge of operating systems (Windows/Linux) and system hardening.
  • Experience implementing rollback and remediation procedures for failed changes.
  • Understanding of configuration management and compliance frameworks (e.g. MCS/CIS-style baselines).
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis capabilities.
  • Good documentation and communication skills.

Must Have

  • Advanced Shell/Bash and PowerShell scripting experience.
  • Hands-on Ansible automation experience.
  • Experience with BMC TrueSight (or equivalent automation/orchestration platform).
  • Strong OS and system hardening knowledge.
  • Experience building and maintaining rollback scripts for incident recovery.

Personal Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset.
  • Excellent attention to detail, particularly around configuration accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across infrastructure and security teams.
  • Clear written documentation and communication skills.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, compliance-driven environment.
  • Proactive approach to identifying and remediating configuration risks.
