Kick-start your career in Infrastructure and Cyber Security with Gateway Qualifications. We're looking for an enthusiastic and motivated apprentice to join our friendly IT team, where you'll gain hands-on experience across cloud services, technical support, cyber security, digital infrastructure and IT operations.

Wage

£14,560 to £23,132.20, depending on your age

National Minimum Wage Minimum wage rates (opens in new tab)

Salary Scale:

  • (age under 19) £16,016.00
  • (age 19-20) £21,721.70
  • (age 21+) £25,445.42 per annum

10% above National Apprenticeship Rates (based on age)

Hours

Full-time. Hours and days to be agreed with manager and may be subject to change to respond to business and customer needs. Time will also be allocated from the 35 hours for apprenticeship training and study.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Supporting the administration and maintenance of Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, endpoint devices and other cloud services.
  • Helping to protect the organisation through cyber security activities including security monitoring, vulnerability management, device security, identity management and compliance support.
  • Providing technical support to colleagues, assisting with hardware, software, user accounts and access requests.
  • Maintaining technical documentation, asset records and operational procedures to ensure services remain accurate and well governed.
  • Contributing to IT projects, technology improvements and innovation initiatives while developing your professional knowledge and skills.

What you'll learn

Course contents

  • Follow information security procedures
  • Maintain information security controls
  • Develop information security training and awareness resources
  • Monitor the effectiveness of information security training and awareness
  • Handle and assess the validity of security requests from a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Follow technical procedures to install and maintain technical security controls
  • Monitor and report information security events
  • Recognise when and how to escalate information security events in accordance with relevant procedures and standards
  • Review and modify access rights to digital information systems, services, devices or data
  • Maintain an inventory of digital information systems, services, devices and data storage
  • Scopes cyber security vulnerability assessments
  • Evaluate the results of a cyber security vulnerability assessment
  • Perform routine threat intelligence gathering tasks through consulting external sources
  • Undertake digital information risk assessments
  • Identify and categorise threats, vulnerabilities and risks in preparation for response or escalation
  • Document cyber security event information whilst preserving evidence
  • Draft information management reports using standard formats appropriate to the recipients
  • Review and comment upon cyber security policies, procedures, standards and guidelines
  • Perform cyber security compliance checks
  • Translate audit requirements and collate relevant information from log files, incident reports and other data sources
  • Communication skills to co-operate as part of a multi-functional, multi-disciplinary team using a range of technical and non-technical language to provide an effective interface between internal or external users and suppliers
  • Keep up-to-date with legislation and industry standards related to the implementation of cyber security in an organisation

More training information Ginger Nut’s delivery is based on a remote, blended model of one-to-one tutor sessions every 4 weeks, group sessions, webinars, online courses, video, and additional support where required

Apprentices are allocated a tutor to guide them through the training, conduct regular meetings and prepare for End Point Assessment

Our tutors are industry experts with relevant industry experience in addition to teaching and coaching expertise

To support learning, we utilise online resources mapped to the apprenticeship and all learners are given access to LinkedIn Learning, and other bespoke channels designed to support their apprenticeship

Desirable qualifications

  • GCSE in:
    • English (grade Grade 4 or above)
    • Maths (grade Grade 4 or above)

Other requirements

All candidates shortlisted for interview will be required to complete an online digital literacy skills assessment and/or a role-related task as part of the selection process.

This is a remote role, so you'll need a reliable internet connection and a suitable home-working environment; quiet, suitably furnished. This role does also require occasional travel to our Colchester office.
