Your Role:

EIT is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to design, implement, and support secure, reliable, and scalable IT infrastructure across on-premises, hybrid-cloud, and cloud environments. Working closely with Network Infrastructure, Cyber Security, and Software Engineering teams, you will maintain core server, storage, virtualization, backup, and cloud services supporting enterprise applications, scientific research, and AI workloads.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain server, storage, virtualization, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Administer Windows Server, Linux, and Microsoft Azure services, including identity and access-management components.
  • Manage VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter environments.
  • Support core infrastructure services including DNS, DHCP, backup, disaster recovery, and monitoring.
  • Manage server patching, upgrades, lifecycle replacement, and capacity planning.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure incidents, problems, and service requests.
  • Maintain secure infrastructure configurations in line with cyber-security and audit requirements.
  • Support hybrid-cloud connectivity and integration with OCI, Azure, and other cloud services where required.
  • Maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, runbooks, and operational procedures.
  • Identify and deliver infrastructure automation, resilience, and service-improvement opportunities.

Essential Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience administering Microsoft infrastructure, including Windows Server and Azure resources.
  • Deploying and managing virtualized environments using VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter.
  • Knowledge of server and storage hardware technologies.
  • Strong understanding of core networking services, including DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, firewalls, and VPN connectivity.
  • Proven experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure, including servers, storage, networking, and cloud services.
  • Experience with backup, disaster recovery, patching, and infrastructure lifecycle management.
  • Experience with enterprise storage, SAN/NAS, and backup solutions.
  • Experience using scripting and automation tools, such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure monitoring, alerting, and incident resolution.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), AWS, or other public-cloud platforms.
  • Experience using Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code tools.
  • Knowledge of Git and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of cyber security controls, vulnerability remediation, and privileged access management.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or container platforms.
  • Experience supporting hybrid-cloud environments and cloud migration projects.
  • Relevant technical certifications, such as Microsoft, VMware, Cisco, or Oracle Cloud.

Working Together – What It Involves:

  • You must have the right to work permanently in the UK with a willingness to travel as necessary.
  • You will live in, or within easy commuting distance of, Oxford (or be willing to relocate).
