I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What we're looking for:
We're not expecting someone to know everything from day one. You'll ideally have some experience in IT infrastructure, systems administration, technical support, or a similar environment, together with a genuine interest in developing your technical career. A basic understanding of Linux, networking, servers, or cloud technology would be useful, but attitude and technical aptitude are just as important as your existing experience.
The person:
We're looking for someone who is:
- Technically curious and keen to learn.
- Methodical and detail-oriented.
- Comfortable troubleshooting problems.
- Reliable and proactive.
- Happy getting hands-on with technology.
- A good communicator and team player.
- Interested in building a long-term career in infrastructure.

The opportunity:
This isn't a role where you'll be limited to one small area of IT. You'll have the opportunity to work across a broad infrastructure environment, gaining exposure to cloud, servers, databases, monitoring, networking, security, and automation. You'll have support from experienced engineers and established processes initially, with the expectation that you'll gradually take on more responsibility as your skills develop. For someone looking to build a career in Infrastructure, Cloud, or Operations, this offers the chance to develop a genuinely broad technical skill set early in their career.
If you're technically curious, enjoy solving problems, and want a role where you'll keep learning, we'd like to hear from you.
