Contract Length: 3 Months Initial Contract
Location: Remote, UK (with occasional site visits) IR35 Status: Outside IR35 Start Date: ASAP
The Opportunity
We are supporting a large enterprise customer currently undertaking several strategic infrastructure transformation projects. As part of a wider modernisation programme, they are looking for an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to support the migration and rebuild of their existing VMware estate to Proxmox.
This is a hands-on technical role focused on solution design, migration planning, implementation, and optimisation, working closely with internal infrastructure and project teams to ensure a successful transition with minimal disruption to business operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support the migration of virtualised workloads from VMware to Proxmox.
- Assess existing VMware environments and develop migration plans and methodologies.
- Build and configure new Proxmox infrastructure platforms.
- Perform workload migrations, testing, and validation activities.
- Design and implement high-availability and disaster recovery solutions where required.
- Troubleshoot infrastructure, virtualisation, and performance issues.
- Produce technical documentation, migration runbooks, and support handover materials.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, networking, and project teams throughout delivery.
- Provide technical guidance and best practice recommendations around Proxmox platform adoption.

Required Experience
- Strong experience administering and supporting VMware vSphere environments.
- Proven experience delivering VMware to Proxmox migration projects.
- Strong understanding of virtualisation technologies and enterprise infrastructure environments.
- Experience with storage technologies including SAN, NAS, and shared storage platforms.
- Good understanding of networking concepts including VLANs, routing, and switching.
- Experience building and managing highly available virtualisation environments.
- Strong troubleshooting and performance optimisation skills.
- Experience working within enterprise-scale IT environments.
- Ability to work independently and deliver against project milestones.

Desirable Experience
- Experience with Linux-based infrastructure and administration.
- Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery solutions.
- Experience with automation and scripting technologies.
- Exposure to enterprise transformation or datacentre migration projects.
- Experience working alongside multiple delivery workstreams within complex organisations.
