Role Overview

Our client is seeking a motivated Infrastructure Solutions Engineer with deep expertise in on-premises virtualisation — specifically VMware vSphere/ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V — to join their growing team. The role involves leading 3rd-line support, managing complex client infrastructures, and delivering strategic on-prem and hybrid IT solutions. The Solutions Engineer will act as a technical leader within the team, mentoring junior engineers and ensuring the highest levels of service.

Responsibilities

• Technical Leadership & Troubleshooting: Provide expert-level support across VMware and Hyper-V environments, physical server infrastructure, networking, and security. Act as the primary escalation point for the engineering team.
• Project Ownership: Lead end-to-end infrastructure projects — including VMware-to-Hyper-V migrations, ESXi upgrades, P2V/V2V migrations, SAN/NAS deployments, and on-prem to hybrid cloud transitions — ensuring successful and timely delivery.
• Client Interaction: Work closely with clients to understand their on-premises infrastructure needs and provide tailored solutions. Manage expectations and guide clients through technical implementations.
• Team Mentorship: Mentor junior engineers on virtualisation best practices, troubleshooting methodologies and career development.
• Security & Compliance: Lead the design and implementation of security solutions including firewalls, endpoint protection, and network segmentation across on-prem environments.
• Documentation & Reporting: Maintain thorough documentation of virtualisation configurations, runbooks, and DR plans. Provide clients with performance reports and infrastructure recommendations.
