Role Title: Infrastructure Engineer
Location: Wokingham RG41 5BN | Hybrid, 50/50
Duration: 3 months + possible extension
Pay Rate: £447 per day all inc. (PAYE through Umbrella)
Contractor Must Be SC Cleared (active)

Seeking a skilled and proactive Infrastructure Engineer to design, implement, support, and maintain the organization's IT infrastructure.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, security, and scalability of core infrastructure services, including servers, storage, virtualization platforms, operating systems, cloud services, and network-connected systems.
The Infrastructure Engineer will work closely with Cyber Security, Service Operations, Application Support, and Cloud teams to deliver resilient and secure technology solutions that support business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Management
- Design, deploy, and maintain enterprise infrastructure solutions.
- Administer physical and virtual server environments.
- Manage infrastructure performance, availability, capacity, and lifecycle activities.
- Implement and maintain high-availability and disaster recovery solutions.
- Support datacenter and cloud infrastructure platforms.

Server & Operating System Administration
- Install, configure, and maintain Windows and/or Linux server environments.
- Perform server patching, upgrades, and vulnerability remediation.
- Monitor server health and proactively address performance issues.
- Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and related infrastructure services.
- Support operating system hardening and security best practices.
Cloud & Virtualization
- Support cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure and AWS.
- Administer virtual environments including VMware and Hyper-V.
- Assist with cloud migrations and infrastructure modernization initiatives.
- Implement and manage infrastructure-as-code and automation solutions where applicable.
Security & Compliance
- Ensure infrastructure complies with security policies and regulatory requirements.
- Support identity and access management controls.
- Work with Cyber Security teams to remediate vulnerabilities and risks.
- Maintain secure configurations across infrastructure platforms.
- Participate in audit and compliance activities.

Monitoring & Incident Management
- Monitor infrastructure services and respond to alerts.
- Investigate and resolve complex infrastructure incidents.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement preventative measures.
- Support business continuity and disaster recovery testing.
- Participate in on-call support and maintenance activities as required.
Automation & Continuous Improvement
- Develop and maintain automation scripts and operational tools.
- Improve infrastructure processes through standardization and automation.
- Identify opportunities for cost optimization and performance improvements.
- Contribute to infrastructure strategy and technology roadmaps.
Documentation & Collaboration
- Create and maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.
- Work closely with project teams to deliver infrastructure solutions.
- Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing across IT teams.
- Support project delivery and change management activities.
