JOB- IT Infrastructure Engineer

LOCATION - Birmingham – Office Based

TERM - Permanent

SALARY - £40,000 to £55,000 per annum

We are a growing organisation operating across multiple locations and investing in the development, security, and resilience of our IT infrastructure. We are looking to expand our IT team with the addition of an IT Infrastructure Engineer to support a broad range of on-premise, cloud, and hybrid technologies.

We are looking to hire an experienced IT Infrastructure Engineer to support, maintain, and develop core infrastructure environments across the business. This is a varied hands-on role covering servers, virtualisation, cloud services, backup and recovery, cybersecurity, identity management, and infrastructure projects.

The IT Infrastructure Engineer MUST have:

  • Commercial experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure environments
  • Strong experience supporting Windows Server environments
  • Good knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy
  • Experience supporting Microsoft 365 and Entra ID
  • Experience with virtualisation platforms such as VMware and/or Hyper-V
  • Experience supporting backup and recovery technologies
  • Knowledge of storage technologies and endpoint management
  • Understanding of basic networking principles
  • Experience supporting cloud and hybrid infrastructure environments
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Experience working within a structured IT support or ITIL-based environment

The IT Infrastructure Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud infrastructure technologies
  • Experience with cybersecurity platforms such as CrowdStrike, Microsoft Defender, or similar
  • Experience supporting or managing Palo Alto Firewalls
  • Knowledge of Zero Trust security principles
  • Experience supporting manufacturing or multi-site environments
  • Exposure to automation and scripting technologies such as PowerShell
  • Relevant Microsoft, Azure, Virtualisation, ITIL, or CompTIA certifications would be beneficial
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • A proactive, customer-focused, and solutions-based approach
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality standards
  • A collaborative mindset with a focus on continuous improvement

The IT Infrastructure Engineer role will involve:

  • Supporting, maintaining, and administering servers, storage, virtualisation platforms, cloud services, and backup systems
  • Ensuring the availability, performance, reliability, and security of infrastructure systems across all business locations
  • Managing Microsoft-based environments including Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and Entra ID
  • Monitoring infrastructure performance and identifying opportunities for improvement, optimisation, and risk reduction
  • Supporting cybersecurity initiatives including patch management, vulnerability remediation, endpoint protection, MFA, and access controls
  • Assisting with disaster recovery and business continuity planning and solutions
  • Supporting infrastructure projects including system upgrades, migrations, cloud adoption, ERP implementations, and site integrations
  • Investigating and resolving infrastructure incidents, technical escalations, and complex problems within agreed service levels
  • Working closely with service desk, network, and application support teams to ensure effective service delivery
  • Managing relationships with third-party suppliers, support providers, and technology partners
  • Maintaining accurate technical documentation including infrastructure diagrams, configurations, standards, and operational procedures
  • Participating in change management activities to ensure infrastructure changes are assessed, tested, documented, and implemented effectively
  • Supporting the wider IT team and contributing to the ongoing improvement and resilience of the technology environment
  • Occasionally travelling to other business sites where required
