Infrastructure Specialist - London
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Specialist to join a global technology team. This is a hands-on role responsible for managing and supporting enterprise infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments.
The successful candidate will have strong technical expertise in VMware, Windows Server, storage, disaster recovery, and cloud technologies, along with experience automating operational processes and using AI-assisted development tools.
A key aspect of the role is owning and continuously improving the organisation's disaster recovery capabilities, ensuring systems remain resilient, secure, and highly available.
Key Responsibilities
- Support, maintain, and enhance corporate infrastructure across global environments.
- Act as an escalation point for complex infrastructure issues.
- Design and implement highly available server and storage solutions.
- Build and support VMware hosts, virtual machines, and associated storage platforms.
- Administer Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, Entra ID, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, Exchange, and Microsoft 365.
- Design, implement, and maintain disaster recovery solutions, including replication, failover, testing, and recovery planning.
- Create and maintain DR runbooks and ensure RTO/RPO objectives are achieved.
- Plan and execute cloud migration projects to AWS and Azure.
- Manage and support hybrid cloud environments spanning on-premises and public cloud platforms.
- Configure and maintain monitoring, alerting, backup, and recovery solutions.
- Automate routine operational tasks using PowerShell, Python, and Infrastructure-as-Code methodologies.
- Use AI-powered development tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code to improve automation, troubleshooting, and operational efficiency.
- Perform capacity planning and infrastructure life cycle management.
- Work with internal stakeholders, vendors, and support teams to resolve technical issues.
- Participate in an on-call support rota and support out-of-hours infrastructure changes when required.

Technical Skills & Experience
Infrastructure
- VMware vSphere/ESXi administration and troubleshooting.
- Dell server hardware and enterprise storage platforms.
- Strong understanding of virtual infrastructure and underlying physical environments.
- Backup and recovery technologies including Veeam and Rubrik.
- High availability and disaster recovery design and implementation.
- Experience with Zerto replication and failover solutions.

Microsoft Technologies
- Windows Server 2019-2025.
- Active Directory and Entra ID.
- DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, NTFS permissions.
- Exchange and Microsoft 365 administration.
- PKI/Certificate Services.
- SAN and iSCSI storage technologies.
Automation
- PowerShell and Python Scripting.
- Infrastructure-as-Code and configuration management tools such as Ansible, DSC, Chef, or Puppet.
- Experience leveraging AI-assisted coding and automation tools.
Additional Experience
- SQL Server high availability deployments.
- Citrix administration.
- SolarWinds monitoring and alerting.
- Server hardware troubleshooting and vendor management.
Personal Attributes
- 10+ years' experience in enterprise infrastructure roles, ideally within financial services or other mission-critical environments.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritise effectively.
- Calm and methodical approach to resolving critical production issues.
- Strong focus on resilience, disaster recovery, and continuous improvement.
- Enthusiasm for automation, innovation, and AI-driven operational efficiencies.
- Comfortable working in a hybrid environment with regular office attendance.
