This role is based out of our New Bailey, Manchester office. We have a hybrid working model of 3 days together and 2 days wherever.
Due to the nature of the work, you will need to be eligible for security clearance+.
About The Role
The purpose of this role is to help create, implement and support technical solutions that impact internally and/or externally. It supports the execution of the software engineering strategy and roadmap that supports BT’s commercial strategy through cross functional project and technical delivery and the participation of a team that pursues innovation as well as engineering excellence.
The role is to work with other engineers build and support network and computing components of the prisons platform, working closely with internal teams, Openreach engineering people and external customers. It is key to providing outstanding service to our customers by maintaining and improving the products we supply them with.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Supports the maintenance of IT infrastructure components, tools or locations and contributes towards ensuring the creation of designs on services (e.g., network, security, storage, compute), which are to be produced in line with design standards
- Contributes to the collaboration with application development, enterprise architecture, infrastructure and cyber security teams to assist in the implementation of effective product roadmap)
- Contributes to the automation and orchestration capabilities across the environment and establishes process and procedures that promote efficiency, solving day-to-day user problems
- Provides day-to-day support to internal tools and system health, as well as infrastructure implemented for all projects and supporting the management of customer support contracts
- Contributes to the collaboration with technical architects to translate architectural designs into operations
- Supports in the implementation of ways to improve working processes within the area of infrastructure engineering responsibility, including network and infrastructure performance and health

Essential Skills / Experience
- Windows (AD, DNS, GPOs, WSUS, server management) & Linux (RHEL/OEL) Administration with intermediate scripting and automation skills (at least one of PowerShell, Bash, Perl, Ansible) including system updates.
- SNMP Monitoring & Alerting experience (PRTG or equivalent)
- Strong Problem-Solving Skills with proven experience supporting and troubleshooting complex production environments
Desirable Skills / Experience
- Network infrastructure support, including IP networking, subnets, routing, and administration of Cisco firewalls, switches, and load balancers
- Oracle database administration, entry SQL and PL/SQL
- VMware administration and virtualisation technologies
- VoIP/sip telephony devices and technology (Asterisk exposure advantageous)
- Advocating and applying technology where it has not been used previously
- Continuous upskilling and ability to quickly learn new technologies
- Communication Skills
- Agile delivery methodologies

Skills
