Infrastructure Specialist - Cloud Operations & DevOps

Rate: £535 per day (Inside IR35)
Location: Remote (UK) with occasional travel to London (York Road)
Contract Length: 6-month rolling contract (project signed off for 2 years)
Security Requirements: UK Citizen, currently based in the UK, with a minimum of 5 years continuous UK residency and eligibility for government vetting/clearance

Your new company

You will be joining IBM on a nationally significant HMRC Borders & Trade programme, supporting the delivery of critical digital services within the UK public sector.

Working as part of an established delivery team, you will contribute to the ongoing development, maintenance and optimisation of cloud-based platforms supporting essential customs and trade systems.

Your new role

As an Infrastructure Specialist specialising in Cloud Operations and DevOps, you will support the delivery and operational management of cloud-hosted environments, infrastructure automation and deployment services across complex government platforms.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage, maintain and optimise cloud-based environments.
  • Support and enhance DevOps processes, tools and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain automated deployment and infrastructure solutions.
  • Contribute to the design, support and improvement of CI/CD pipelines.
  • Support containerised application deployments and orchestration platforms.
  • Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions.
  • Collaborate with development, testing and operations teams to deliver reliable services.
  • Support environment provisioning, configuration management and release activities.
  • Monitor platform health, performance and stability.
  • Troubleshoot infrastructure and deployment-related issues.
  • Support testing activities and infrastructure readiness for releases.
  • Drive continuous improvement across cloud and platform operations.

Essential skills and experience

DevOps & CI/CD

  • Strong understanding of DevOps principles and practices.
  • Experience with Git, Bitbucket and Azure DevOps (VSTS).
  • Experience supporting and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Jenkins administration and pipeline development experience.

Cloud & Infrastructure

  • Hands-on experience working within AWS environments.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and infrastructure automation.
  • Strong understanding of cloud operations and environment management.
  • Good networking awareness and understanding of infrastructure dependencies.

Containerisation & Orchestration

  • Experience working with container technologies.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes and container orchestration platforms.
  • Understanding of deployment automation and orchestration processes.

Automation & Configuration Management

  • Strong Ansible scripting and configuration management experience.
  • Experience implementing automated provisioning and deployment solutions.

Testing & Operational Support

  • Understanding of testing principles and release management processes.
  • Experience supporting development, test and production environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Mandatory requirements

  • UK Citizen.
  • Currently based in the UK.
  • Minimum 5 years continuous UK residency.
  • Eligible to undergo required government vetting and clearance processes.
