Role Description
The Innovation and Policy Analyst is a remote volunteer role responsible for researching trends in innovation, technology, and public policy within the UK and globally. Day-to-day tasks include:
- Gathering and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data
- Reviewing policy documents and reports
- Preparing concise briefing notes, presentations, and summaries for internal and external stakeholders
- Monitoring regulatory developments
- Mapping stakeholders in the innovation ecosystem
- Identifying opportunities for collaboration or advocacy

The analyst will help design research frameworks, support the development of policy recommendations, and contribute to thought leadership content such as articles, blogs, or insights. The position also includes:

- Attending virtual meetings and events
- Coordinating with team members
- Maintaining organized records of research findings and project activities
Qualifications
- Ability to conduct structured research and policy analysis, including data gathering, literature review, and synthesis of complex information.
- Strong written communication skills for drafting reports, policy briefs, and thought leadership content, with attention to clarity and accuracy.
- Capacity to interpret public policy, regulatory documents, and innovation-related frameworks, and translate them into actionable insights.
- Competence in stakeholder mapping, ecosystem analysis, and understanding of how startups, industry, and policymakers interact.
- Proficiency with common digital tools (e.g., office productivity software, online collaboration platforms, and basic data analysis tools).
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage time effectively, and meet agreed deadlines.
- Relevant academic or professional background in public policy, economics, innovation management, social sciences, or a related field (formal education or equivalent experience).
- Demonstrated interest in innovation, economic development, and inclusive policy-making; prior experience in research, think tanks, or advocacy is beneficial.
- Strong interpersonal skills and openness to working with diverse stakeholders, communities, and partners.
