Inside Sales Manager
Leading TRL’s Inside Sales and Outbound Business Development team
Location: Wokingham, Berkshire (office based)
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Build a high-performing outbound sales function and drive growth across some of the UK's most important transport and infrastructure sectors.
TRL is a global research and consultancy organisation delivering innovation and expertise across transport, highways, infrastructure and mobility. We're looking for a commercially driven Inside Sales Manager to establish and lead a proactive outbound tele-sales operation focused on generating new business opportunities and revenue growth.
This is a hands-on managerial role for someone who thrives on prospecting, opening doors, building pipelines and developing high-performing sales teams. You'll be responsible for creating a culture where proactive customer engagement, disciplined follow-up and commercial accountability drive measurable results.
The Opportunity
You'll lead a small but ambitious outbound tele-sales team, identifying and engaging organisations that could benefit from TRL's expertise and services.
Working closely with our technical specialists, consultants and commercial teams, you'll help translate complex capabilities into compelling customer propositions and generate meaningful opportunities across:
- Local authorities
- Highways and transport organisations
- Government agencies
- Infrastructure operators
- Engineering and consultancy businesses
- Commercial sector clients

Success in this role will be measured by growth in customer conversations, qualified opportunities, new customers and profitable revenue.
What You'll Be Doing
- Build and lead TRL's outbound telesales and outbound business development function.
- Develop and execute targeted outbound sales campaigns.
- Identify prospective customers, projects and decision-makers.
- Generate qualified meetings and sales opportunities.
- Re-engage dormant customers and identify opportunities within existing accounts.
- Maintain a robust and accurate sales pipeline.
- Lead, coach and develop a small team of Business Development Representatives.
- Set clear sales activity and performance expectations.
- Monitor pipeline performance, opportunity conversion and revenue delivery.
- Work closely with technical and consultancy colleagues to create compelling commercial propositions.
- Personally engage with strategic opportunities and key prospects.
About You
You'll be a proactive and commercially minded sales leader with experience generating new business through outbound activity.
You'll bring:
- Proven experience leading an outbound telesales, inside sales or business development team.
- A strong track record of generating new business through proactive prospecting.
- Experience selling professional services, consultancy, technical solutions or complex B2B offerings.
- Excellent telephone-based sales, questioning and influencing skills.
- Confidence engaging senior stakeholders and decision-makers.
- Experience managing pipelines, opportunities and CRM systems.
- Strong commercial awareness and a results-driven mindset.
- The ability to coach, motivate and challenge others to achieve ambitious targets.
- Experience within transport, infrastructure, engineering, consultancy or public sector markets would be advantageous but is not essential.
