About the Role
Our client is a well-established and highly respected structural steel fabrication and construction business, supplying and erecting fabricated steelwork across the UK and Ireland. Due to continued expansion, they are seeking an Inspection and Testing Engineer with a Mechanical Engineering background to join their busy Construction team.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced Engineer to join a growing and ambitious business, working closely with Project Managers and Site Managers to ensure inspection and testing requirements are met across projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct statutory thorough examinations and inspections on all types of equipment, including lifting equipment, work equipment, structural supports, plant and access equipment
- Report inspection findings in accordance with relevant legislation, regulations and standards, including LOLER 1998 and PUWER 1998
- Advise and support customers regarding their legal obligations under relevant regulations
- Prepare detailed and compliant inspection reports and ensure all documentation meets internal and regulatory standards
- Recommend corrective actions or repairs where equipment or structures are found to be non-compliant or unsafe
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry legislation, standards and best practice, including LOLER, PUWER and BS EN 1090
- Communicate inspection results clearly and professionally to clients, providing expert guidance on ongoing compliance and safety requirements
- Collaborate with Engineers, Site Managers and Fabricators to coordinate inspections during manufacturing, assembly and installation phases
- Work closely with Project Managers, Site Managers and other key stakeholders to ensure inspection and testing activities are completed in line with project schedules and programme demands
- Identify and report unsafe conditions or practices promptly, promoting a safety-first culture
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, examinations and associated documentation
- Report any issues or concerns to the relevant Project Manager or Site Manager
- Lead by example and promote safe working practices, following procedures and relevant health and safety requirements

Position Details
Inspection And Testing Engineer - Position Remuneration
- £45,000-£50,000 depending on experience
- Monday to Friday, full-time
- Key role within a growing and ambitious structural steel contractor

Position Requirements
- Mechanical Engineering background with a relevant Engineering qualification or experience
- Previous experience within an Inspection, Testing, Engineering or Compliance environment
- Experience conducting thorough examinations and inspections on lifting equipment, work equipment, plant or access equipment
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and standards, including LOLER 1998 and PUWER 1998
- Knowledge of BS EN 1090 would be advantageous
- Previous experience within a structural steel or construction environment would be desirable but is not essential
- Excellent attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and compliance
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients and site teams
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Conscientious, hardworking, flexible and safety aware
- Ability to manage a varied workload, work to tight deadlines and prioritise workload effectively
- Proactive approach with a willingness to identify opportunities for improvement
