Lifting Inspection Engineer

Lloyds British | Plymouth

Monday to Friday | 39 hours per week | Permanent

With a heritage spanning more than 200 years, Lloyds British is one of the UK’s leading providers of lifting and equipment inspection services.

Now part of the Speedy Group, Lloyds British combines over two centuries of specialist engineering knowledge with the training, development and career opportunities available across one of the UK’s leading specialist services businesses.

The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Lifting Inspection Engineer to join our team in Plymouth, working 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Whether you already have experience within the lifting equipment industry or have a strong engineering or mechanical background and are looking to develop your career within inspection, we’d be interested in hearing from you.

This is a varied, hands-on engineering role where you’ll inspect, test and certify lifting equipment, helping our customers ensure their equipment is safe, compliant and ready for use.

You won’t be doing the same thing every day. Alongside lifting equipment inspections, you’ll have the opportunity to get involved in load testing, pull testing, occasional destructive testing, rigging loft activities and the inspection of a wide range of lifting accessories.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Lifting Inspection Engineer, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Carrying out inspections and examinations of lifting equipment and accessories
  • Completing load testing and pull testing
  • Undertaking occasional destructive testing where required
  • Inspecting lifting accessories and associated equipment
  • Supporting activities within the rigging loft
  • Identifying defects and ensuring equipment meets the required safety and compliance standards
  • Producing accurate inspection documentation and reports
  • Providing customers with a professional, knowledgeable and responsive service
  • Working safely and in accordance with Lloyds British procedures and relevant industry standards
  • Developing your technical knowledge through ongoing training and professional development

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
