NuNano - Inspection Engineer
NuNano is a UK-based nanotechnology start-up, specialising in atomic force microscopy (AFM) probes. We are passionate about creating high-quality products and providing the best possible customer service for researchers and engineers at the cutting edge of nanoscale science and technology.
We’re currently looking for someone to take on the role of Inspection Engineer for one year as a maternity cover (starting asap) but it could be extended. The role could be full time or part time depending on the candidate. So if you’re enthusiastic, motivated and well-organised, with a curiosity for science and technology, then we’d love to hear from you.
You’ll work in a fast-paced, high-tech environment, at the forefront of the latest nanoscale characterisation challenges.
Your Role
As Inspection Engineer you will work on the quality control and inventory of NuNano’s AFM probes. This will include:
- Production inspection – performing final quality control procedures of our standard AFM probes on wafers completing production.
- Packaging – distributing probes from wafers into Gel-Pak boxes for customer shipments and inventory.
- Analysis – capturing data from inspection processes to monitor and record process output and product quality.
- Reporting – documenting processing and inspection output during production to inform process control and product quality. Using our online Manufacturing/Inventory system to document all our products.
- Inspection process optimisation - contribute to ongoing optimisation of our proprietary automated SEM software, including training the software to function with new AFM probe designs.
- Product development – assist with other manufacturing and quality control activities to improve existing products and demonstrate applications for new products using SEM and AFM.
- Managing shipments of products to customers – setting up shipments and packing up products
- Support – contribute to the wider success of the business, including bespoke projects and ongoing R&D, when required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
