Senior designs and manufactures high-technology components and systems for the principal original equipment manufacturers in the worldwide aerospace, defence, land vehicle and power & energy markets. The Group is split into two divisions, Aerospace and Flexonics, servicing five key sectors.

Senior Aerospace Thermal Engineering is part of the Aerospace division and is a leading aerospace components manufacturer, supplying aero engine and airframe OEMs and their Tier 1 suppliers globally.

Using high technology processes, we specialise in

  • Hot and cold formed components in high temperature aerospace alloys
  • Complex fabricated assemblies
  • Thermal insulation heat shields and systems

Senior Aerospace Thermal Engineering has over 30 years of experience of the quality standards in the aerospace industry with certification to AS9100 rev D and accredited by NADCAP for our special processes.

Purpose of Role

Organise and develop the Inspection Team to ensure parts are inspected at the required stage of manufacture to the relevant documentation and meet quality and customer standards to achieve on time delivery and sales plan targets. Plan, organise and run the calibration system to ensure all internal and external items in service are calibrated and identifiable.

  • Manage the Inspection Team to meet operational requirements in line with ISO9001/AS9100 and quality standards as agreed with customers
  • Inspection of parts (Work in Progress / Final product), and associated paperwork against the applicable requirements and configuration at the relevant stages in the manufacturing process.
  • Use of conventional inspection methods and in accordance with the inspection reports.
  • Carry out inline process and product inspections throughout the factory.
  • Program & Run Faro Arm’s with Laser Scanner’s using Polyworks.
  • Raise non-conformances reports in accordance with the quality system.
  • Release products direct to manufacturer within our DPRV department.
  • Calibrate build and inspection tooling.
  • Organise the collection and release of measuring instruments for internal & external calibration.
  • Organise MSA, SPC & Gauge R+R studies.
  • Advise on, design and support the development of new product inspection tooling and methods of inspection.
  • Conduct and support problem solving activities using 5Why & 8D problem solving methods.
  • Actively participate in safety improvement activities.
  • Actively participate with Auditors when the Inspection & Calibration system is being audited.
  • Perform all reasonable requests made by management.

Key Requirements

Essential

  • Must have the right to work in the UK without requiring Sponsorship
  • Engineering background with previous inspection experience.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation (drawings, specifications and procedures)
  • Competent with Polyworks, Faro Arms & 3D scanning.
  • Experienced in root cause analysis using 5Whys & 8D
  • A good understanding of GD & T.
  • Experience in using standard measuring equipment (Vernier callipers, micrometres, plug gauges etc.)
  • A good knowledge of ISO9001/AS9100
  • Flexible in working hours to support business needs when required.
  • Effective communication skills with good standard of English (written & verbal)
  • Computer Literate with competence in Microsoft 365, Word, Excel, Minitab.
  • Adaptability with willingness to learn new skills.

  • Previous Team Leader experience
  • Mechanical Engineering background
  • Previous experience in Aerospace Engineering
  • CMM or/and FARO arm experience using PC-DMIS or Polyworks
