In this role, you will support the delivery of the Cartref programme by carrying out minor plumbing repairs, promoting water efficiency awareness, and fitting water-saving products. You will also contribute to the development, testing, and delivery of our water efficiency initiatives, while actively promoting the wider Cartref offerings both internally and to our customers. Our customers range from typical domestic and non-domestic customers. Your duties will include:
- Responsible for undertaking plumbing repairs in domestic and non-domestic properties (e.g toilet, tap and trough repairs) that align with the Cartref principles in a safe and competent manner that provides excellent customer service.
- Deliver behaviour changing education to customers on water efficiency to encourage a reduction in customer demand and drive the efficient use of water within our customer base.
- Install basic water efficiency products within customer properties (hose guns, shower heads) on water efficiency visits.

- Ensure you comply with all company Health and Safety Procedures with the safety of yourself, colleagues, contractors and customers always in mind and undertake additional H&S duties (e.g. Safety Conversations, Briefings, etc.)
- Obtain and maintain your Water Safe accreditation and ensure you are up to date with all other mandatory company training.
- Delivering a high standard of customer service in line with our company values.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
