Position Summary

The Fire & Security Installation Engineer is responsible for the professional installation, commissioning, and handover of electronic fire and security systems across commercial, industrial, and residential properties.

The engineer will ensure all installations are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company procedures, relevant British Standards, NSI Gold requirements, and current legislation while maintaining the highest level of customer service.

The role requires excellent technical knowledge, attention to detail, effective communication, and a proactive attitude towards health and safety.

Key Responsibilities

Installation

Install and commission:

  • Fire Alarm Systems (Conventional & Addressable)
  • Intruder Alarm Systems
  • CCTV Systems (IP & Analogue)
  • Access Control Systems
  • Intercom & Video Entry Systems
  • Emergency Lighting (where applicable)
  • Disabled Refuge Systems
  • Network infrastructure associated with security systems

Complete installations in accordance with:

  • BS5839
  • NSI Gold Standards
  • BAFE requirements
  • Manufacturer specifications
  • Company installation standards

Project Delivery

  • Complete projects within allocated timescales.
  • Work from drawings, specifications, and cause & effect documentation.
  • Identify installation issues before they become project delays.
  • Maintain excellent workmanship throughout every installation.
  • Ensure cable management meets company standards.
  • Commission systems to manufacturer requirements.
  • Complete customer demonstrations and end-user training.
  • Obtain customer sign-off upon completion.

Quality Assurance

Ensure every installation meets KBO Fire & Security quality standards by:

  • Maintaining neat and professional workmanship.
  • Labelling equipment correctly.
  • Testing all equipment before handover.
  • Completing commissioning documentation.
  • Producing accurate as-fitted information.
  • Reporting defects immediately.
  • Supporting ISO9001 continuous improvement initiatives.

Health & Safety

Work safely at all times by:

  • Following company RAMS.
  • Wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Maintaining clean working areas.
  • Reporting hazards and near misses.
  • Ensuring safe use of ladders, access equipment, and power tools.
  • Complying with Health & Safety at Work Act.
  • Following CDM regulations where applicable.

Customer Service

Represent KBO Fire & Security professionally by:

  • Maintaining a courteous and respectful attitude.
  • Communicating clearly with customers.
  • Keeping clients informed of progress.
  • Protecting customer property.
  • Leaving every site clean and tidy.
  • Promoting the KBO standard of workmanship.

Documentation

Complete and submit:

  • Installation paperwork
  • Commissioning sheets
  • Test certificates
  • Variation reports
  • Site diaries
  • Photographic evidence
  • Handover documentation
  • O&M information where required

Ensure all paperwork is accurate and submitted within company deadlines.

Company Vehicles & Equipment

Responsible for:

  • Maintaining company vehicle cleanliness.
  • Carrying out daily vehicle inspections.
  • Managing engineer stock.
  • Looking after company tools.
  • Reporting damaged equipment.
  • Maintaining calibration records where applicable.
