Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment

Institute Administrator

Salary is from £36,513 to £41,565 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £44,468 pa inclusive of London allowance.

This is a fixed term appointment for two years with extension subject to further funding.

The Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment is looking to recruit an Institute Administrator (Finance and HR) to join its professional services team. This is a varied role with a particular focus on financial and HR administration. The postholder will take responsibility for a range of core processes, including purchasing, invoices and expenses, budget monitoring, recruitment administration, hourly paid contracts and timesheets, and overseas and consultancy contracts.

Working closely with the Operations Manager and colleagues across the professional services team, the postholder will provide advice and guidance to colleagues on relevant School procedures and ensure that accurate records and effective administrative systems are maintained. The role will work across the Grantham Research Institute and associated research units, including CETEx and TPI, and will involve regular liaison with colleagues in central teams including Finance and HR.

We are looking for someone who is highly organised, comfortable managing a busy and varied workload, and able to take ownership of their areas of responsibility. You will need excellent attention to detail and the confidence to use your initiative to resolve day-to-day issues, while recognising when more complex matters need to be escalated.

Candidates Should Demonstrate

  • Experience of delivering financial administration, including purchasing, invoices, expenses, budget monitoring and/or financial reconciliation.
  • Experience of providing HR or recruitment administration, including supporting recruitment processes and maintaining accurate employment records.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage a varied workload across finance, HR and operational administration.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and a demonstrable ability to maintain accuracy when processing financial, contractual and HR information.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and will be able to build effective working relationships with research, policy and professional services colleagues. They will be comfortable working independently within established procedures while contributing positively to a collaborative administrative team.
